Help Your Child Become a Great Student By Beth Stevenson
My son is a dedicated student and usually brings home report cards to be proud of, however, when he was younger, I thought about how I could help him move from good to great in his ability to do his homework and improve his study habits!
When he was in grade school, I received a phone call from my son's grade four teacher. She expressed a concern about his homework habits, mentioning that there were a few homework assignments that she had been receiving late, incomplete or not at all. When I finished talking on the phone with her, I approached my son about the situation. I gathered information from him and then spoke with him quite seriously and sternly and impressed upon him the importance of learning good study habits to maintain his grades throughout his academic career. I understood that being only in grade four he would rather play outside with his older brother, however, if he was already having trouble keeping up with the demands of homework and assignments, I knew he would be in great difficulty by the time he hit high school. Besides, I knew that he is very intelligent and has no reason not to excel in school. I decided to put my mind to figure out a way to help him advance from good to great.
