My daughter had no idea that she would have such a difficult time finding child care providers with openings, or she would have started the process of looking earlier. We began by finding child care providers on the list who were near to my daughters home. Several of the daycares were fully occupied, or were currently caring for an infant. The child care providers are limited to having two infants in their care at a time. We called one provider and were told that she would have an infant slot open in six months. This childcare was situated two blocks from my daughter so the location was perfect. She put her name on the waiting list for the infant opening.
We then tried calling child care providers sho would be able to care for the baby for the first six months until the other opening was available. We located one who was to be found in the opposite route from where my daughter works. This added forty five minutes on to her morning and afternoon commute, but she was running out of options. She decided that for the short time she would make the time consuming drive.
