Tips to Find a Child Care Provider
By Beth Stevenson

A friend's daughter had her first baby in the last few months. She told me the following story about her daughter.

She was allowed to take four months off of work. She was preparing to go back full time at the end of the four months. She wanted to place her baby in a home situation so she began calling child care providers who were licensed by the local county social services agency. She had found out from co-workers that child care providers are tricky to find, particularly for children under one year.

She called child social services for the list of child care providers in her location. Since social services charges for the list they make available the names of all the child care places in the area. She was astonished when she was told that she had to pay for the list. The list was very detailed. It listed the names, addresses and telephone numbers of the child care providers as well as minute information of their license. These details incorporated the number of children they were licensed to provide care for as well as the names of any child care aides that they hired. My daughter wanted me to help her so she brought the list over to my house so we could find the right home to care for the baby.
